Our fitness routine in Naples, FL

I was waiting for a rainy day to write this but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I DID spot a cloud on the far horizon a few minutes ago so I went indoors to tap away on the keyboard. Here’s what our fitness routine looks like when we’re in Naples:

Our routine run is 9k long and first leads along Gulf Shore Drive past the La Playa hotel (where Senator Rick Scott had his election party last week) and then leads past the entrance of Vanderbilt Beach:

Then, past the Ritz-Carlton hotel over a mini bridge. We then turn into the beautiful area of Pelican Bay with large trees that provide shade:

Then, we arrive at a community park that has a football field, basketball and tennis courts and a playground. We use this area for some strength training… push-ups, pull-ups, lunges, squats, crunches and all the good stuff:

Then, 3k back to our place where we do some stretching with view over the bay area:

The course is beautiful – my only problem is that it is completely flat. I’ll have to pay for that when we’re back in hilly Switzerland.

If not running, we’re on our bikes. Today we rode 60k to Ft Myers – with a break in the middle:

In the afternoon, we usually spend a couple of hours at the beach, which always involves a walk of at least 5’000 steps. We also have this fuzzy goal of swimming 500m every day (from our place to the La Playa hotel), but usually we have excuses (to windy, too many waves, leaky goggles, water too salty, etc.). Over the last 20 days we have done it only 3 times. Yep, definitely need to improve on that one!

With all the exercise and outdoorsy life-style I find that I sleep much more – according to Garmin my average sleeping time over the last 7 days is 8h 43m. Feels good!
