The Eiger Ultra Trail

The Eiger Ultra Trail took place for the 6th time in Grindelwald, Switzerland. The classic run is 101k long with 6’700 elevation gain. I opted for the softer version: the 51k distance with only 3’100 elevation gain. Here’s the trail:

I did this race together with my running buddy, Reto, while Kai met us at some points  along the way with the mountain bike. We ran in the category “couple” which meant that both runners must pass through each check point together.

The evening before – Fabienne, Reto’s daughter, ran the 16k race.

It took us 9 h 32 minutes to finish – out of 50 couples we got 12th place. In hindsight, I should have trained downhill much more – I was pretty slow and kept on getting in peoples’ way on the single trails. I also fell once at kilometer 30 which resulted in a bloody knee. But fortunately it didn’t hurt too much so I could continue without any problems. Here are some pictures – the race provides some stunning views!

The race was perfectly organized with amazing aid stations. I think I’ll try this one again next year!
